*Cellar Selection* This low production (365 cases) Pinot Noir is a selection from the winery’s various vineyards. It’s an enormous wine, intricately layered with blackberry, cherry, cola, mushroom, pine needle, bacon and toasty oak. It’s also very acidic, and the tannins close in fast, giving the wine an astringency that lasts through the finish. This needs time; hold until 2016, at the very least.
*Two Stars* Goldeneye's Pinots have typically been structured, ageworthy wines that were on the more muscular end of the varietal spectrum, and led by this deep, well-extracted working, the current bunch meets expectations. Full, but still fairly tight with solid fruit and a firm acid spine, it is laced with complexing notes of woodsy spice and is at once long, concentrated and a bit lean. It will need at least a few years before showing much in the way of finesse, but keeping comes without the slightest gamble or risk.
Aromas of loamy earth, raspberry, cedar and sage are firm and focused on the palate, gaining richness and depth and ending with a persistent, earthy finish. (JL)
