*Outstanding* An exuberantly expressive nose offers up an abundance of exotic Vosne spice elements along with notes of violets, plum and cassis. There is good muscle and punch to the broad-shouldered, robust and solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of supporting dry extract, all wrapped in a mouth coating firm, balanced and impressively persistent finish. Good stuff.
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts 2011 has a beautiful perfumed, floral bouquet that opens immediately with bright red cherries, fresh strawberry, minerals and just a tincture of burnt toast. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps just a little green around the edges, structured and masculine with an aloof finish that will need time to mellow. This feels like it has some stem addition and while that influences the wine now, it will be assimilated and transform into intriguing secondary flavors down the line. (NM)
Good dark red. High-toned aromas of raspberry, pepper, herbs and crushed rock. A sweet, intensely flavored midweight with dense, sharply delineated flavors of raspberry, spices, herbs and pepper. Very bright and fresh on the back end, finishing with brooding flavors of dark cherry and peppery herbs and a firm tannic spine to support aging. Lovely precision and soil character here. 93+ (ST)
