Close in quality but perhaps not quite as exuberant and profound is the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot). It boasts an opaque purple color as well as abundant notes of charcoal, scorched earth, underbrush, licorice, black currants and blackberries. Slightly more evolved than the 2007, it is nearly that wine’s equal in terms of depth, richness and overall appeal. This strong effort should drink well for two decades or more. (RP)
Good deep red. Dark aromas of black cherry, mocha and licorice; much fruitier today than the 2007, and showing some of the very ripe aspect of that wine. Less dense but more delineated and energetic than the 2007, with good lift and minerality to the dark fruit, spice and chocolate flavors. A juicy, bright style of cabernet that finishes with firm but suave tannins. Winemaker Philippe Melka notes that this is a block selection and gets longer barrel aging than the winery's Proprietary Red. Potentially more refined than the 2007.
