The 2012 Zinfandel Heminway comes from a site on the top of the eastern Vaca Mountains planted at an elevation of 1,700 feet. This killer Zinfandel boasts lots of incense, camphor and meaty black cherry and black currant fruit. It is one of the sexiest, up-front, concentrated Zinfandels in this portfolio.
The 2012 Zinfandel Heminway is very pretty. Firm tannins support a core of expressive red fruit, mint, flowers, crushed rocks and anise. The aromas and flavors remain bright, focused and nicely chiseled in this articulate, focused Zinfandel. The 2012 needs time to fully come together, but it shows plenty of promise.
(15.9% alcohol; from vines planted on volcanic soil at an altitude of 1,700 feet): Bright, dark red. Brooding aromas of blueberry, blackberry and cassis. Classic zinfandel flavors of black fruits, pepper and spices accented by menthol and gun metal notes; steely and quite dry, with a serious spine of acids and tannins. Zero roasted character here.
