K&L Notes

Lyeth's Meritage is a blend of the five red Bordeaux varietals with 58% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. With grapes sourced from select vineyards across Sonoma County, it is the flagship wine of the estate and delivers an excellent value. From the winery: "A brilliant garnet in color, this Meritage is rich with aromas of dark cherry, plum, and boysenberry with subtle notes of mocha and cedar completing the nose. Flavors of blackberry and anise are lush and pronounced on the palate and are followed by hints of brown spice and maple. This blend of flavors exhibits a good balance between acids and tannins that ends with a very smooth finish."

I had a hard time putting the glass down... Merlot driven, plums and dark fruits shine and are backed beautifully by the Malbec, which contributes a strawberry flavor. Medium + body, incredibly smooth tannins, structured acidity, velvety stewed fruit, and a long finish with a hint of herbal notes makes this wine my new evening go-to. Pair it with something roasted or Netflix and a couch.

This wonderful bargain from Lyeth is extremely versatile. At once it has deep, dark, red and black fruits, silky tannins and generous mouthfeel but, it does not come across as heavy handed due to the red fruit character that peeks through. Subtle spice and wood nuances add extra layers of interest, as well. Extremely versatile!

This is a great go to bottle for folks who like their reds domestic, full-bodied, smooth, rich and affordable. There is a reason that this is a best seller: simply put, you can spend much more money and not get a better wine for the style. California Cabernet lovers should buy this by the case.

Black fruit and pomegranate aromas and flavors; soft tannins and some spice; clean finish. Cab gives this a nice backbone, fullness from the Cab Franc and Merlot, and spice from the Petit Verdot and Malbec. What is not to like? A real crowd-pleaser!

This is one of our best domestic red blends under $20.Full bodied and black fruited with toasted oak characteristics on the nose, this wine has a smooth velvety texture, displays depth with a hint of cocoa and licorice and finishes with mild tannins. Rich and delicious, this is a perfect casual dinner party pick!

A perennial staff and customer favorite, Lyeth is one of the most approachable wines we carry. Dark fruit, mocha, and blackberry lead into a smooth and wildly long finish. No need to decant here, just rip and sip this one.

Dark fruit, a touch of spice, oak and chocolate on a medium to full bodied palate with moderate tannins and respectable length. All for $15? You betcha, this is one of the best deals in CA red here at K&L.

Year after year, this Cabernet based wine beats most wines in this price category in quality. Vibrant black and blue fruit wrapped by soft tannin, spice and just touches of Mocha and cedar. Lyeth was founded over 25 years ago and now is part of the BOISSET FAMILY ESTATES.

Lyeth has been making wines since the early 1980s. The 2012 Sonoma County Meritage continues their streak of success in offering low-priced, good values. The Merlot is dominant in this year's blend, giving more blueberry and plum notes. On the palate are flavors of blackberry fruit, cedar, and chocolate. It's medium to full bodied and quite the treat for $15.
