K&L Notes

94 points Wine Orbit: "A moody, savoury, engaging pinot; it's sweetly fragrant on the nose displaying complex aromas of dark cherry, plum, floral and hints of dried herb and vanilla. The palate is concentrated and rounded with excellent mid palate weight and rich texture, perfectly framed by abundance of polished tannins. The finish is superbly long and pleasingly dry. The wine is immensely appealing and thought-provoking at the same time. At its best: now to 2020."

This beautfiul Pinot is so light and spicy, yet sneaky powerful and complex. Driving, super fresh red fruits, forest floor, rose petal, dried herbs, and zesty acidity. Flat out incredible Pinot Noir from one of our favorite new wineries!

There is great depth and complexity to this Pinot Noir that really makes it stand out. I can understand all the high point marks and accolades it has received. This wine is layered with notes of cherries, wild raspberries, violets, earth, and spice. The finish lingers long and pleasantly. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this gem.

Tongue in Groove is an amazing new project from some of the savviest folks in the NZ wine biz. Ex-Pegasus Bay winemaker Lynnette Hudson leads the team creating these spectacular wines from some of the best vineyards in the country. Her many years of experience and expertise crafting Pinot Noir and Riesling (Tongue in Groove’s obvious focus) show in these stunning wines with silky textures, purity and depth. The “Vine Tender” is Nick Gill, is one of the most talented viticulturalists in NZ. As we know, one of the most important elements of any wine is what goes on in the vineyard! Managing Director is Angela Clifford, she is the one who pulls together Tongue in Groove’s wacky personality and hones it into one pretty slick package! The distinctive labels each represent a different character from the group of friends behind TIG and the designs illustrate their individual personality traits; just like the character of the wondrous, diverse, expressive wines inside the bottles!

Bright crunchy red fruit--cranberry, cherry and strawberry with medium-plus acidity. Zippy acid and fleshy fruit make this Pinot hard not to love!

This one is the more earthy of the two tongue in groove pinots we're offering. The bright red fruit here is complemented by noticeable leather and dark cherry with a dark underbelly of minerality.

If you like Pinot Noirs with more restrained fruit, then this Cabal/Smith Vineyard is a must try! The nose on this wine is very aromatic with pretty floral notes. There is a lot of pepper, herbs and minerality on the palate with soft fruits such as dark cherry and raspberry. The tannins are very polished and the long finish will have you reaching for more.

Very light and peppery for a Pinot Noir. I really enjoyed the zippy Rhone-like flavor for a change. It's like a lighter Syrah or a spicier Pinot Noir. Very dynamic and easy to drink.
