Impressive Pinot Noir with cherry, plum, mineral and savoury/wild herb flavours that are less "fruity" and more "vinous" than most. This is powerful Pinot with a sustained finish and surprising richness and complexity.
Another delicious Pinot that sports much of the same character as the 2011, although this is a more detailed version, more precise and closely honed. The nose has unmistakable fragrant sandalwood notes, some cola and a bright blue and red fruit core, chalky elements and a twirl of wild brackeny whole bunch aromas amid mocha and spice oak. In the mouth, it's all smooth-honed texture and lithe juicy fruits with nut-ripe tannin and sweeping fleshy presence. Long, fresh and enduring flavours with the right mix of power and elegance. Great drinking now, plenty of complexity and narrative in the glass, will develop well too. Watch this one.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2012 Waipara Valley Pinot Noir has a delicate nose of red plums, red currants and crushed raspberries with hints of underbrush, lilacs and dried earth. Light-bodied with lovely elegance and yet fully ripe with subtle red berry and earthy notes supported by silky tannins, it finishes with good length.
