Layers of blue/purplish fruit meld into graphite, gravel, licorice and violets in the 2012 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard. This is a decidedly dark, juicy Zinfandel endowed with tons of power and richness. Suave and silky on the palate, the 2012 finishes with notable depth and polish. Even with all of the intensity, the tannins remain nicely balanced throughout. (AG)
Inky ruby. A highly aromatic bouquet displays scents of fresh black and blue fruits, floral pastilles and peppery spices. Shockingly lithe and precise for its heft, offering vibrant blueberry and licorice pastille flavors and a jolt of smoky minerals. This really stains the palate. Smoothly marries power and vivacity and finishes sweet, gently tannic and very long.
Supple, with a gutsy core of focused fruit. Aromas of smoked pepper, black cherry and spice cake open to layered flavors of wild berry and licorice. Drink now through 2022. (Web Only-2015)
A blend of 97% Zinfandel and 3% mixed blacks, the 2012 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard offers briary, raspberry and black cherry notes. This earthy, peppery, spicy, medium to full-bodied Zinfandel possesses good acidity and headiness. It’s a big boy at 15.5% natural alcohol, and was aged in French oak, 22% of which was new. Drink now-2020. One of the great success stories in Northern California is the genesis of Carlisle Winery, whose owner, Mike Officer, began as a wine hobbiest / software developer and grew into a full-time wine producer who has done more to save head-pruned, old-vine Zinfandel vineyards than anyone else in the United States. He built his reputation on full-flavored red wines and continues to fine-tune these beauties, often field blends of what are generically referred to as “mixed blacks” planted primarily by Italian immigrants prior to Prohibition.
