Drawn from the wind-cooled blocks on the side of the Hirsch estate that faces the Pacific, this has the bright acidity and tannic crunch of a red plum. Its brash, youthful structure never quite resolves into silkiness, but it’s flavorful and energetic, with raspy grip that’s ready to match charcuterie.
In this wine, a mellow, aged character comes from subtle aromas that are part fruit, part earth and herb, and from the satiny smooth texture and almost overripe plum flavors. Neither tannic nor tart, the mouthfeel is soft and plush.
