A great Syrah, the 2013 Syrah Hudson Vineyard from Carneros includes 50% whole clusters and was cofermented with 3% Viognier. Tasting like a California version of a Côte Rôtie, it offers up notes of bacon fat, lard, meaty cassis and black raspberries, and a floral undercurrent. This fabulous, full-bodied, opulent, juicy, succulent, sexy Syrah should age effortlessly for a decade or more. (RP)
The 2013 Syrah Hudson Vineyard presents quite a contrast to the Griffin's Lair. Here the style is much more intense and overtly fruit-driven. Black fruit, smoke, tobacco and leather are some of the notes that open up in the glass. The 2013 impresses for its huge mid-palate and overall intensity, both qualities that flow through to the muscular finish. (AG)
Combines power and polish with aromas of ripe blueberry and mineral, showing well-structured, rich flavors of raspberry, grilled herb and white pepper. The tannins ease in on the finish. Drink now through 2027. (JL)
