The 2014 Marquis d'Alesme - Becker is dark, sensual and inviting. Dark red and purplish fruit, violet, mint, chocolate, lavender and sweet French oak infuse this voluptuous, super-expressive Margaux. This is in a decidedly plush, sumptuous style, but it works. The 2014 saw about 5 days of cold soaking, then 26-28 days on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentations that were done 60% in oak and 40% in steel. (AG)
The 2014 Marquis d'Alesme Becker has a tightly wound bouquet that is not quite as expressive as the 2014 Labégorce that I tasted alongside. Black fruit here, a touch of melted tar and violets, but it needs several years. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tough tannin on the entry. This does not quite "flow" as well as its peers at the moment, although there is satisfying complexity and nuance on the finish that suggests it simply needs more bottle age. The salinity on the aftertaste is very pleasing. (NM)
Very good expression of elegant floral fruit and real class from Cabernet Sauvignon. This estate continues the good form it reached in 2014. (SS)
This delivers a fleshy, inviting blast of warm plum and blackberry preserve flavors, inlaid judiciously with a singed alder note. Bright violet and anise accents fill in on the finish, which has solid depth for the vintage. (JM)
A very distinctive nose of soy sauce and licorice with a hint of bell pepper leads into a medium-bodied wine with some serious dry tannins. A bit chewy on the finish.
