San Lazzaro's Grifola is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes from the calcareous clay soils of Offida in Marche; a historic winegrowing region nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains. Vines souced for Grifola are 40 years old and offer modest yields of high quality fruit which stands up to vinification in new French oak barriques to realize a rich and powerful red. Ruby red color introduces a nose of cherry, leather, baking spice, and chocolate. These characteristics continue powerfully on the palate with good mouthfeel and an elegant finish. A wine for red meats and hearty pasta with red sauce.
