Le Père Jules is a fourth-generation family producer of pear and apple ciders, pommeau and Calvados in Normandy. The history begins in 1919, just after the First World War, when Jules Desfrièches (aka 'Père' Jules or 'Father' Jules) began producing cider using the apples from his family's farm. Soon, demand for his ciders spread from to local restaurants and became very popular throughout Normandy. In 1949, son Léon Desfrièches joined the business and created the brand 'Le Pére Jules' after his father. Today, the Desfrièche family remains committed to the standards of quality set by 'Le Père,' and so it is no surprise their handcrafted ciders and Calvados are so coveted in gourmet circles around the world. From Le Pére Jule: "This product is the result of the subtle marriage of freshly pressed apple cider and Calvados that has been aged for one year. Afterward, it is aged in oak barrels for several years, where the flavor will be transformed to result in a finished product with a smooth harmonious taste filled with aromas. It’s the 'aperitif,' or before dinner drink, par excellence from Normandy."
