Plump boysenberry and dewy sagebrush meet with a touch of wet asphalt on the nose of this bottling by Bob Lindquist, whose pioneering brand is now part of Charles Banks' portfolio. Dark purple fruits, from blueberry to blackberry, show on the palate, but with refreshing tartness, as do more complex nuances of menthol, eucalyptus and incense. (MK)
Reminding me of a quality St. Joseph from France's Northern Rhone valley, the 2012 Syrah Santa Barbara County (75% Bien Nacido Vineyard and 25% Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard) offers lots lot pepper, olive tapenade, bacon fat and blackberry fruit to go with a medium-bodied, beautifully textured and nicely structured feel on the palate. Incorporating 2% Grenache and aged 22 months in 25% new French oak, it's a rock-solid, high-quality Syrah to drink over the coming decade.
