This single vineyard Rhone Blend consits of 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 12% Syrah, 3% Counoise coming from the Glenrose Vineyard. Established in 1994, Glenrose Vineyard represents some of the oldest plantings of Rhone varietals on the west side of Paso Robles. One of the only terraced vineyards in the area, sitting at an elevation of 1500’-1700’, owner Don Rose bulldozed the hillside into terraces to expose the limestone and stress the vines. The vines are planted on extremely chalky, high pH soils, which combined with great rootstock and clonal selections, produce mineral driven, aromatic fruit. While Glenrose is planted to Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese varietals, we source almost entirely French Beaucastel clones. The idea behind this wine is to create a snapshot of the entire property as each varietal has a Song of its Own and brings something special to the wine. The Grenache, Syrah 99 and Counoise were cofermented with 50% whole cluster. The Mourvedre and Shiraz 7 were blended in three months later and the final blend spent 12 months in neutral oak. This wine shows the classic kirsch, Provencal herbs, and roast meats expected from great Grenache based wines.
