Ivo Jeramaz, Mike Grgich’s nephew, grows this wine at estate vineyards in American Canyon and Carneros, where most of his Sauvignon vines are the musqué clone. He ferments it in foudres, with a small portion in older French oak barrels. That oak is evident in a vanillin scent when the wine is first poured, but the fruit has retained its brightness and clarity, so the oak aging adds depth and plushness while the wine feels tight and concentrated, focused on passion fruit and juicy orange notes.
*One Star* Sharing the house style with the Grgich Essence above, this wine is also high in acidity and fairly tight at this writing. Its grassy and green apple leanings get a boost from a dollop of oaky richness while the wine's fullness is nicely balanced by the hints of bright citrus in its flavors and by underlying structural firmness. If tasty now, it will be better in a year.
From grapes grown in the cooler, southern reaches of the Napa Valley, this dry white exudes the time it spent in oak cask and barrel, providing a woody, sweet vanilla touch to the nose and palate. Fig and lemon rind come to the fore on the finish, accenting a medium body and length.
Juicy and bright, this offers mouthwatering lemon, lime and pear flavors, with accents of green apple, papaya and melon. Drink now.
