The 2012 Secateurs Red Blend has just nudged upward in my estimation since last year. Here, it has a very well-defined, quite sumptuous bouquet with vibrant raspberry, dark cherry and mineral notes that have really opened up in the last 12 months. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. This is very well-balanced with great delineation on the finish. Drinking beautifully now. (NM)
Good medium red. Sexy aromas of cherry, orange peel and flowers, plus a bit of leathery funk and a touch of candied fruits. An attractive sweet/spicy midweight from vines picked on the early side. Substantial ripe tannins build with air. The pH here is 3.68. (ST)
The Secateurs selections are always attractive wines, and this vintage red doesn't disappoint. Accents of minty cassis, licorice, black tea and leather frame the black berry and cherry core, while lingering suggestions of purple flowers, black tea and sweet spice unfold on the finish. (LB)
*Very Good Value* Mid crimson. Sweet, round and charming on the nose. Lots of fruit on the mid palate and very refreshing. Whole bunch. Hugely sprightly and appetising. Clean finish. (JR)
*Smart Buy* Juicy and direct, with kirsch, red licorice, damson plum and violet notes, backed by a lively blood orange hint on the finish. Shiraz, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinta Barocca, Pinotage, Mourvèdre, Carignane and Grenache. Drink now. 2,770 cases imported. –JM
