One of the very best Champagnes I've tasted this year, Ellner's 2004 "Prestige" bottling is indeed a stunning example of its namesake. With some significant bottle age, this small-production beauty gains enormous complexity while maintaining a rather lithe framework. The flavors are both lavish and restrained, boisterous and polished, showing caramel apple, lemon mousse, brioche, savory minerality, and cleansing acidity. Most interestingly, it picks up a rather nutty, briny, Sherry-like note toward the mid-palate which lasts throughout the compelling finish. This is a bizarre balance of crowd-pleasing richness and funky esoterica that pulls it off gorgeously. Do not miss!

Even though this has been aged at the estate for years, it is still taught and full of life. Creamy apple and pear on the nose, with a big laser beam of apply acid on the palate. Mouth filling and thirst quenching, don't leave me alone with one of these if you were expecting to have a glass. Despite the obvious complexity and depth at this stage, I long to enjoy it again after another few years in the cellar. Buy a case and drink it over the next half decade or so and you will be RIGHTEOUSLY rewarded.

What a year 2004 was! My beloved Red Sox finally gave "the curse of the bambino" a line drive straight into history. What was arguably the best television sitcom in history ended its incredible ten year run (can you guess what show?) A little website called FACEBOOK was launched. However, there was one more thing that took place that we simply cannot ignore. That is the amazing vintage of Champagne that is wonderfully represented here by Charles Ellner. This is rich, creamy, and has such lovely honey notes to it. 2004 may have been the year in which one 86 year curse, ended, but with this champagne being so meticulously crafted, I can see it as the beginning another decades long adventure! This will age for that long!

Another excellent Champagne from Ellner and another reason to love our Direct Import program. This is vintage champagne that sourced from all estate fruit in Epernay and it is under $50 which is kind of crazy. Vanilla and honeyed pear notes give this beauty a richness and weight that is balanced by the crisp acid from 70% Chardonnay grapes. The finish is crisp and dry and lingers a little while making me want a whole bottle to myself.

If you like Champagne that combines both chalky, high acid drive with a nearly silky, creamy texture, this is for you. I was also struck by the extraordinary, tiny bead. I imagine this will age for as long as you care to keep it- take note if you were married in 2004 like I was! It is composed of 70% Chouilly Grand Cru Chardonnay and a combination of Tauxieres and Epernay Pinot Noir for the remainder. I have another bottle in the fridge for tonight!
    Drink from 2016 to 2044
