The exceptional Dailuaine distillery is not one we see very often and even less frequently as an official distillery bottling. The old distillery on the road between Glenfarclas and Aberlour isn't on the tourist routes. It was founded in 1852 and like her neighbor Benrinnes, she's found a home as a consistent component in many of the Diageo blends. The first highland distillery to feature a pagoda roof, it's now the home to Diageo's dark grains plant where spent grain from all over the highlands is processed for animal feed. This is probably why they don't want you poking around the place, but they continue to make a solid savory style malt and with some age it can be superlatively good. This special release of Dailuaine is widely considered to be one of the finest offerings from this unsung distillery. Only 2592 bottles were drawn from a handful of refill American oak casks and bottled at cask strength. At this price it's one of the most special malts in the shop.
