The deep ruby/purple-hued 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville Selection is a beautiful effort from this iconic Napa Valley winery. Made from an organically farmed vineyard, and presumably 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it was aged 27 months in 100% French oak (80% new). The purity of the fruit as well as the lovely perfume of creme de cassis, flowers, red and black currants and spice are terrific. Expressive, expansive and rich on the palate, with wonderful integration of wood, alcohol, tannin and acidity, this beauty can be enjoyed now and over the next 10-15 years. (RP)

*One Star* Still very young and very backward in scent, this dense and nervy but unevolved wine hints at berries and clay and briar in the nose and follows with concentrated berry and spice flavors. Fleshy but still tight and bothered a bit by grabby tannins at the end, it is years from showing at its very best and should be set aside for a decade at the least.
