(the Zinfandel component comes from a very hot, rocky site): Good full red. Dark berries, black pepper and licorice aromas are lifted by a violet topnote. Very smooth and sweet but juicy as well, showing lovely peppery, spicy verve to the black fruit flavors. In a distinctly brisk style: O'Reilly picks this fruit at very reasonable sugars--as low as 22.5 degrees Brix for the Malbec component. An attractive, creamy wine with sappy freshness, this early-released "cash-flow blend" relies as much on its acidity as on its tannins for structure. Finishes with good persistence. (ST)
