K&L Notes

Fourth-generation Swiss winemaker Georg Fromm fell in love with New Zealand and opened his winery in 1992 with the goal of merging his European sensibility and the New Zealand terroir. Fromm Winery are one of THE go-to estates for NZ Pinot Noir with a long history of excellence. They are certified BioGro organic and all the wines are hand-crafted and small production. After selling these wines for 10+ years (I sold them in England too beforing moving to Calfornia) I am stoked to be importing them direct from the winery for K&L customers. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L NZ Wine Buyerz) Winemaker's Notes: "A bright and pure Pinot with ripe fruit density and savoury undertones. Complex and harmonious with a structural complexity. From the very exciting 2014 vintage comes this appealing yet complex Pinot Noir. A blend of the four vineyards, it expresses two sub-regions of Marlborough (the clay soiled Brancott Valley plus the alluvial gravel and silt of the Wairau Valley). The nose offers a lovely purity of red/blue fruit (black cherries, blueberries and ripe wild strawberries) and is complimented by subtle integrated oak, graphite minerality an intriguing savoury spice. The palate shows generosity, balance and structure with ripe fruit concentration, layered tannins and focusing acidity."

The 2015 Pinot Noirs from Fromm are incredibly rich and concentrated, so black-fruited and peppery in nature that at first I thought I had poured a Syrah. I found the La Strada to be not only delicious, but utterly fascinating in its profile, loaded with spicy accents that played beautifully of the density of the fruit. I've been a big fan of the Fromm wines across the board since Ryan brought them in years ago, but this is easily the best vintage of Pinot Noirs I've ever tasted from the Marlborough producer. These are like more fruit-forward and accessible versions of Pommard for Burgundy fans.

Beautiful aromatics of spicy cherries, strawberries and quite floral as well. This is a charming Pinot that also carries structure on the palate, rounding all the lifted aromatics and also giving it a touch of earth as well.

Quite forward and richly fruited on the nose and palate; bright red berries, with darker edges, lovely generosity of flavor and texture. Toasted spices, warm earth and wild herb notes gain momentum with decanting. Fantastic Pinot drawn from some of the Marlborough’s best Pinot Noir sites delivered at a bargain price. Fromm's pedigree on display here.
Top Value! Drink from 2016 to 2026

The Fromm "La Strada" comes to us directly from NZ with a crazy low price point for a Pinot this ridiculously good. Made entirely with de-stemmed fruit from organic vineyards in Marlborough, it drinks like a high-class Burgundy without the price point. Overtly pretty aromatics of flowers and tea leaves dance from the glass while the palate brings vivid red berries, fresh minerality, subtle mushrooms and loam, finishing with a wave of cleansing acidity and pleasing length. At $25 a bottle, you're unlikely to find a better Pinot in the store!

Holy Moly! This is great Pinot. It has everything, aromatics, texture, complexity and length. If you want to focus on one of these: texture. This wine, with some decanting, is seamless. Somewhere between crushed velvet and silk. It is the perfect medium for the dark berry, mineral and spice notes. This is luxury Pinot Noir that is very affordable.

A must try Pinot from the Marlborough region. Great with food or alone! This medium bodied wine has dark cherry and floral aromas. On the palate are flavors of earth, sandalwood and raspberry with a beautiful lingering finish.
