Elegant and reasonably powerful Pinot Noir with spicy cherry, smoky oak and violet flavours. A firmly structured wine that can be appreciated now but deserves to be matched with food. Good cellaring potential.
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full and up-front with ripe fruit aroma of dark red berry and cherry fruit entwined with subtle layers of herbs, revealing raspberry liqueur and mineral elements. The aromatics build in depth and concentration in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft, plush and juicy fruit flavours of dark raspberries with lifted dark red florals and subtle layers of herbs and minerals. The fruit forms a gently sweet and rich core with fine-textured, supple concentration and structure, and a fresh, acid driven line. Flavours of liquorice, black cherries and minerals show on a lingering, dry, firm finish. This is a fresh, juicy, sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with a fine-textured core and fresh mouthfeel. Match with firm-fleshed seafood, poultry, pork and antipasto over the next 4-5+ years. 11 clones, predominantly 115, 667, 777, 5, 6 and 10/5, from the ‘Fromm’, Wairau, ‘Clayvin’ Brancott Valley, ‘Quarters’, Brancott Valley and ‘Yarrum’, Brancott Valley vineyards, vines 10-24 y.o., destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with approx. 75% whole berries to 13.5% lc., the wine spending 2-3 weeks on skins and aged 16 months in 12-15% new barriques. Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2014 La Strada Pinot Noir is beautifully scented of warm cranberries, raspberry tart and kirsch with hints of garrique, dried herbs and forest floor. It fills the palate with perfumed, earth and kirsch laced flavors with satiny tannins and great freshness, finishing long. (LPB)
