K&L Notes

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe is a mid-18th century property located at the limit between the two villages of Saint-Emilion and Saint Christophe des Bardes. Consisting of 11 hectares on the eastern clay and limestone hills of Saint-Emilion, the chateau overlooks beautiful, ancient dry stone terraces restored by hand during a renovation by the owners in 2012. "One of my top ten values under $30 for this great vintage. Rich and round and quite sexy - a property to watch," says K&L owner Clyde Beffa.

Opulent and deep with a rich core of black and blue fruits, cocoa powder and integrated oak (30% new). Polished but bright finish with mineral and suave tannins. A breakout year for the brilliant team at Tour St-Christophe.

Tasting the 2015 next to the 2012 was a great way to contrast the vintages. The 2012 is an elegant and rounded wine with lovely highlights of red fruit, whereas the 2015 is a darker beast, full of fleshy Merlot and intensely concentrated black fruits with highlights from the oak and ripe tannins. The terraced slopes of Tour St. Christophe's vineyards are a very special place, capable of creating truly expressive wine, and this 2015 cuvee is just another example of that fact.

Barrel tasted April 9, 2016: Inky color, lots of upfront fruit, very ripe and layered in the mouth, loaded with mocha, cream and blackberry flavors, shows a fair amount of structure and the wine is fresh on the finish. This is a sleeper and a great buy from the 2015 vintage!

Our third vintage for this property (12 and 14 also available)and a property I picked three years ago as one to watch. The only property on our April trip where we visited twice to taste their amazing wines. The 15 is their best yet. Situated across the valley from Barde Haut, the terroir is tops and one of the highest in St Emilion. 80% Merlot and 20% Cab Franc - 14.8% natural alcohol and you can't tell at all. Very spicy black cherry aromas and flavors. Long and lingering on the palate. So good and under $30. One of my top 10 value wines of the vintage.
    Drink from 2020 to 2035

Outstanding value!! Loaded with blueberry/blackberry fruit backed up by good minerality and salinity. Soft tannins and ripe fruit make this a delicious St. Emilion that won't break the bank.
Top Value! Drink from 2018 to 2030
