One of three Pinot Noirs I tasted, all bottled unfined and unfiltered, the brilliant 2013 Pinot Noir Clos Platt is made from 100% Calera clone and about 16% whole-clusters and spent 16 months in barrel. This is a gorgeous Pinot Noir – dark ruby in color, with notes of roasted herbs, blackcurrants and black cherries, forest floor, truffle and subtle earthy undertones. (RP)
From a young organically farmed vineyard in the cool, windblown hills near Bodega, this feels plump yet completely savory, its mushroomy flavor developing out of rich, perfectly ripe tannins. It ends on a bright sanguine note, like a Nuits-St-George transposed into a sunnier key.
