K&L Notes

Francois and Jean-Marie Cherrier with father Pierre produce steely and citrus-driven Sancerre from fine parcels of Sauvignon Blanc planted in silex (flint) and chalky soils. Yields are kept low and harvest is done strictly by hand before fermenting in 100% stainless steel. Vibrantly aromatic and mineral-driven, this is quintessential Sancerre.

Crisp and classic, the 2015 Cherrier shows flinty focus up front and brisk acidity that softens to a rounder palate with notes of apricot and tropical fruit, plus a traditionally chalky finish. Sharp but crowd pleasing, at a price you don't often see in Sancerre, this refreshing Sauvignon Blanc continues to win fans.

Pea shoots, lime, and wet stones keep the overall character here cool and green. While the palate is high acid, with only some citrus to speak of fruit-wise, this vintage shows a little more generosity in the body. The main focus, as usual, is on the wide streak of flinty minerality. If you are hoping to find a mine in your next bottle of Sancerre, this is the one to start with.

Always a customer favorite, the Cherrier Sancerre provides you with fruit and thirst quenching acidity for under $20 a bottle. The 2015 provides notes of peach, nectarine and even a hint of pineapples. You don't need to spend $25+ to get a great Sancerre.

The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world. Classic grapefruit and tropical notes with light chalky minerality and bright acidity. You need Sancerre? This is it!

I tasted the same bottle twice for this review - once upon opening it, and again after 2 days open in the fridge. At first blush it was laser-focused. Tons of bright acid and a blast of refreshing lemon-lime citrus. Perfect hot weather drinking. After 2 days...my goodness. The mouthwatering freshness still makes for an incredibly satisfying glass of wine, but the tight focus on citrus has opened beautifully into fresh, but never overripe stone fruit. The mineral drive and chalkiness is readily apparent yet well integrated. The texture is smooth and eminently enjoyable. If you can manage to not finish the bottle on the first go around, keep it for a day or two and try it again. You'll be glad you did.

Wowser! I was really impressed with this wine. Great acidity, with fluidity all the way down the palate, with that great chalkiness that gives it so much life and personality. A colleague had us try this same bottle after two days being open, and it was magical! The chalk and terroir was toned down a bit, with excellent salinity and plenty of life left. It was perfectly balanced. An impressive amount of Sancerre for the money.
    Top Value!
