Bryant's DB4 is one of Napa Valley's hidden gems. Round, sweet and expressive - especially for the year - the 2013 exudes richness and intensity, with no excess weight and fabulous overall balance. The 2013 benefits from a high presence of Cabernet Franc that in most years makes the cut for the Bettina. Raspberry jam, mocha, rose petals and mint add the closing shades of nuance. Savvy readers should take note; DB4 is one of the finest wines in Napa Valley in its price range, or any price range for that matter. (AG)
The Bryant family’s 2013 DB4 is from younger parcels of the estate vineyard blended with fruit that Don Bryant, the proprietor, purchases from David Abreu’s vineyards, such as the Madrona, Thorevilos and Howell Mountain sites. This wine has a deep ruby/purple color and sexy, up-front notes of chocolate, mulberry, blackcurrants and forest floor. It is lush, fleshy and totally captivating. This lovely, medium to full-bodied, plush and precociously styled wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 12-15 years. (RP)
