This was a strong showing for a wine that was drinkable on the day it was released. It reveals plenty of ripe, jammy, curranty fruit aromas intertwined with scents of melted road tar, herbs, and toast. There is fine fruit, glycerin, and richness, as well as a spicy, alcoholic finish in this fleshy, corpulent wine. At twenty years of age it reveals the Silver Oak style and confirms that these wines, even though delicious young, can age more gracefully than some wine critics (myself included) have suggested. Light amber-garnet color, and faded cedar, dried currant and earthy tobacco notes. This has lost its fruit, though is not as tired, dry and tannic as most from '74.--California Cabernet '74/'84/'94 retrospective. 4,000 cases made. (Web Only-2004) (JL)
