A refined and polished red with oyster shells, light berries and stones. Full-bodied, tight and reserved. A beauty.
The 2012 Chateau Le Pape is the first wine made from start to finish by the team of Haut-Bailly, and it shows in the wine's textural richness and depth. Dark red cherries, smoke, cloves and mint flesh out in a racy, voluptuous wine to drink now and over the next decade-plus. (AG)
0 Firmly smoky, strong wood-aged texture gives a solid structure. However, the wine has some juicy acidity that allows a fresher side to show through. At the end, though, the firm tannins dominate. Give this wine time and drink from 2020. (RV)
This has a lively spice box thread weaving through the core of plum skin, cherry paste and red currant fruit, with a light briar hint holding the finish. A rejuvenated estate now owned by Haut-Bailly. (JM, Web-2015)
