A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot, the 2012 Ox is firm and edgy, with plenty of tannin in its medium to full-bodied personality. Giving up notes of purple fruits, olive, mint and violets, it stays tight and focused on the palate, with a touch of austerity. Aged 21 months in 40% new French oak, give it a year in the cellar and drink it through 2022. (JD)
