*Good Value* We are never surprised by the quality and consistent value that Morgan’s Syrahs provide, but this exceptionally well-made effort earns an especially appreciative tip of the CGCW cap. It is rich, full and fleshy with great varietal integrity, and its deep, very precise, blackberry fruit is infused with plenty of the grape’s distinctive pepper-and-game spice. It is at once both sturdy and surprisingly well-mannered with an inkling of polish that is bound to tempt early drinking. Its modest price might easily lead to conclusions that it is a wine to gulp down in its youth, but make no mistake, this is one with a fine future, and discerning Syrah lovers should take heed.
Inky ruby. Spice-tinged dark berries, licorice and pungent flowers on the nose, joined by a smoky nuance that builds with air. Shows very good energy and focus in the mouth, offering juicy blackberry and olive flavors and a subtle touch of cracked pepper on the back half. Closes sweet and long, displaying sneaky tannins and bright, peppery persistence. I was reminded a lot of a Crozes-Hermitage. (JR)
Lively and well-built, with spicy blackberry aromas and layered dark plum, bittersweet chocolate and grilled herb flavors. Drink now through 2024. (TF)
