This sports a brambly feel, with lots of dark licorice and warm fruitcake notes mixing with lightly steeped plum and blackberry fruit. Maintains good energy through the modestly toasted finish. (JM)
The top red of the estate is the 2013 Baron Louis Lirac and it’s a blend of 55% Grenache, 15% each of Syrah and Cinsault, and the rest Carignan and Mourvèdre. More concentrated and structured than the straight Lirac, yet also more austere and firm, it has savory notes of wood smoke, black currants, sandalwood and pepper on the nose. Give it a year or two in bottle and enjoy bottles through 2023. (JD)
