Of the three sélection parcellaire whites, the 2015 Ermitage de l’Orée is the most fresh and lively, with full-bodied richness and depth in its pineapple, mint, tropical fruits, toasted bread, brioche and liquid rock-styled aromas and flavors. It has good acidity, a stacked mid-palate and one seriously long finish. Not enough can be said about the quality that consistently comes from this estate. From the top to the bottom of the range, you can’t go wrong. (JD)
Tight bouquet, deep mass of jumbled fruits. Glorious and fat in a complex, provocative wine. In a different league. Drinking Window 2018-2038. (JLL)
Limpid gold. Pungent Meyer lemon, candied pear and vanilla scents show superb clarity and complicating hints of anise and smoky lees. Minerally and precise on the palate, offering densely packed pear, lemon curd and marzipan flavors and deeper suggestions of buttered toast and honey that build as the wine opens up. Shows superb energy and delineation and finishes supple and extremely long, with a lingering floral note. (JR)
Topping the production pyramid here at the Ermitage bottlings, starting with the 2015 Ermitage White de l'Orée which is honeyed and long, with alluring wet straw, heather, pear and yellow apple notes streaming through, carried by a spine of wet stone that echoes authoritatively.
