The 2014 Pinot Noir Rosemary's Vineyard is a richer, layered effort that has a touch more oomph than the Rincon release. Passion fruits, raspberries, violets and spice all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, rich and layered Pinot Noir that has fine tannin, beautiful purity and an already hard to resist style. Aged 16 months in 35% new French oak, drink it anytime through 2024. (JD)
Brilliant ruby-red. A drop-dead, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, incense, candied flowers and star anise, accompanied by a smoky mineral overlay. Sweet, animated and precise on the palate, offering intense raspberry, cherry and spicecake flavors given lift and spine by juicy acidity. Powerful yet lithe, displaying outstanding finishing energy and silky, even tannins that build steadily and in harmony with the vibrant fruit. (JR)
*One Star* If on the one hand fairly solid and well-structured with a touch of tannin affording a welcome bit of grip, this wine is slightly less outgoing in fruit at this point and is not quite as rich as its mates from the Rincon and Stone Corral vineyards. That said, it shows tantalizing touches of flowers and spice and is a complete, if less-than-lavish varietal expression, and, given a couple of years of age, it should open up and find a little more grace and fruity range.
