K&L Notes

Colomé is Donald Hess' groundbreaking Argentinian winery in the rugged, high elevation Salta region. Amalaya is a label from this winery that presents blends based on Torrontes (for the white) and Malbec for the red. Always our favorite Torrontes, it is exciting to see what this winery is able to achieve with a bit of Riesling blended in. This wine is bright, delicious, and impeccably made from organically cultivated grapes grown around 5,500 feet above sea level.

Torrontes and Riesling is a rather uncommon pairing for a white blend, but that seems likely to change based on how well this bottling from Colome works. Torrontes brings all the ripe, aromatic qualities while the Riesling (usually ripe and aromatic in its own right) here provides more structure with a bracing backbone of acidity and stony minerality. This would pair beautifully with a flaky fish in ponzu, or if you want to be super authentic, a bit of Argentine "humita."

This delicious wine made with 85% Torrontes and 15% Riesling. Citrus notes of grapefruit, lemon skins dominate the nose and intermingle with flower aromas. In a mouth, it's delicate and silky yet fresh and crisp with good acidity and a distinctive mineral note. Great for soft cheeses and Chinese cuisine.

This is a delicious blend of two highly complementary aromatic grape varieties. The Torrontes gives you all the exotic, floral aromatics as well as mid-palate weight, while the Riesling adds loads of freshness and zip. Served chilled, this would be an ideal white to have on hand while cooking, and should tackle ceviche, Thai takeout, or miso-glazed salmon equally well. Refreshing stuff!

Many people compare Torrontes to Riesling, so it's great to try one winery's vision of how the two interact! This is a delightful little wine, made in a crisp, tangy style, that neatly highlights the aromatic qualities of the two varietals without becoming cloying or sweet. I would easily pair this wine with Thai and Indian foods.
