An exceptionally pretty, fresh and attractively cool nose is comprised of mostly ultra-pure liqueur-like red berry fruit and earth nuances. The supple, round and delicious middle weight flavors possess a seductive palate impression, all wrapped in a less mineral-driven but more accessible finish. In contrast to the Theurons and Les Cras this could be enjoyed on the younger side if desired.
The 2014 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux has a "placid" nose, laid back and nonchalant -- Morello cherry and raspberry scents, a touch of cold flint in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle tannins that politely grip the mouth, nicely structured with darker fruit (blackberry and bilberry) forming the masculine finish. Very fine.
Healthy bright red. Musky aromas of small dark berries, redcurrant, leather and peppery spices, plus a high-toned suggestion of cherry liqueur. Plush, sweet and ripe in the mouth, showing good supporting rocky minerality. Doesn't have quite the lift of some of the preceding wines but this is nicely tactile and concentrated and the substantial tannins avoid dryness.
