Concentration of flavour and overall form and poise is quite incredible given that this isn't among the top-of-the-tree releases from the estate. This is where the wine drinker really is the winner. (malo and 10 months of aging in French oak barrels, 15 percent of them new) Dark purple. Spice-accented cherry, cassis and licorice scents carry a smoky mineral topnote that gains strength as the wine opens up. Fleshy blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are supported by a core of zesty acidity and become sweeter on the back half. Smoothly blends depth and vivacity and finishes smoky and very long, featuring harmonious tannins and lingering dark fruit and candied licorice qualities. (JR)
Intriguing, with a blend of smoke, cigar box, espresso and nutmeg notes swirling around a dense core of cassis, plum and blackberry flavors. The elements mingle and linger on the detailed finish. (MW)
The deep garnet colored 2015 Shiraz has a compellingly meaty/gamey nose over a core of blackberries and black cherries plus and hint of tar. Medium to full-bodied with a taut structure of firm, rounded tannins and lively acid, it has densely packed savory flavors and great length. (LPB)
