It’s not often that K&L brings you the latest and greatest wine for $8.99, especially one from a producer that is a household name like Columbia Crest, but this 2014 Grand Estates Cabernet is not your typical $8.99 wine. This is lights out Cabernet for under $10. It’s the wine I’ll tell all my friends to look for when they need something inexpensive for holiday parties. As K&L's domestic wine buyer, I can say it's the best Cabernet or Cab-blend we have in the store at that price--no questions asked. Seriously, it’s that good and the best part is that it is under $10 at a time of year that we all need a little help in our wallets. So buy a bottle, or a case, or numerous cases and see for yourself just how good this darkly fruited, varietal correct, lushly rich and warm spiced Cabernet is for yourself. I know I’ll happily be drinking a case or more of this over the Holidays for the next few years.

I think the price and the points are what held your attention long enough to even bother reading these staff reviews. The question now is: does the wine deliver as advertised? I think the Wine Enthusiast notes are pretty much dead on. I took a sip and I immediately tasted sweet cherry, dark cocoa, and milk chocolate. It's pretty straightforward stuff--deliciously straightforward. There's a good amount of oak here, but it's not sweet vanilla oak or extracted wood chips like you might expect in the sub-$10 cab region. It's a nice little dollop of toast that adds complexity to the ripeness of the fruit. What you get is a classic, value-priced Washington wine that harkens back to the days when Columbia Crest was banging out winners right and left. If you like silky reds with plenty of body, yet with a certain level of finesse, this is a real gem.

It's hard to believe we can offer a delicious cab at this price, but sure enough, here it is! Your party wine for the holidays. The Columbia Valley in Washington continues to impress us, and this 2014 is no exception. Big rich and plummy with dusty cocoa and a great velvety texture all mingles with yummy creamy oak. Big and showy and an incredible steal.

I dare you to find a more crowd-pleasing Cabernet at this price! Go ahead - I'll wait. Alright, stop looking already, and just get on in here and pick up a couple of cases! This is inexpensive Cab that doesn't try to be anything other than delicious cab. The nose is fruit, spice, and hints of pepper, and the pallet is a lovely offering of velvety tannins and incredible easy fruit and spice. The finish is round, supple, and elegant. Although we should have a good quantity coming in, I wouldn't make the mistake of assuming it will last through the holidays. Get yours now, and enjoy!

For those looking for today's fruit driven cabernet at yesteryear's prices Washington is the place to look. Here you can still find juicy, drinkable wines that go down so easily and have not tripled in price. Columbia Crest Grand Estates is exactly this type of wine. Rich dark berry, a lush smooth texture and some creamy oak showcase a wine that is drinking perfectly right now for an amazing price. Columbia Crest has produced many well priced crowd pleasing wines and this one is no exception to that rule.

Forward, front end gracious fruit, with some mid and ending structure that was well integrated. This is a cab that not only tastes true to the varietal, it is also an easy entertaining choice when serving wine to the masses. A perfect option for enjoying a wine for less than ten dollars. Enjoy!

Bold and flavorful with nice structure, this Washington Cabernet surprised me. Don't be fooled by the low price.. this wine is definitely worth trying and provides more than you would expect from a sub $10 Cab. Fresh blackberries, red currants and dried herbs, this wine would be a fantastic party wine for guests to enjoy without having to break the bank.
