I've been hand-selling this wine in the store for years now, but I guess some secrets are simply too good to keep to yourself. Since we're doing a bit of email and letting the cat out of the bag, I guess I'd better do some of the same gushing here. This is quintessential Spanish red wine, the kind that opens your eyes, electrifies your taste buds, and has you asking: "Are the other wines from Spain this good and this affordable?" I feel that way about most of the Garnacha wines we carry, but this is the best Garnacha I've ever had. It's plump, concentrated, and simply bursting with red fruit, but it's not monolithic or one-noted by any means. There are earthy undertones; brooding waves of darker berries and savory herbs. It's a complex wine, one that morphs over the palate into a number of incarnations. Bernabeleva has been my go-to sub-$20 red since 2012 and I've probably put over 500 bottles of it into the hands of Redwood City customers over the years. Now the secret's out. Please don't drink all of it!
