K&L Notes

**No. 9 on James Suckling's "Top 50 NZ Wines of 2016"!** Felton Road, along with producers like Rippon and Quartz Reef, continues to lead the way for Biodynamic wine production in Central Otago and produce wines of exceptional purity, drive and character. Don't miss this chance to become familiar with these wines if you haven't already, and especially at this price! (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L NZ Wine Buyer) 93 points Wine Front: "This is a vineyard blend blend. Felton Road, dress circle vineyards. Ripe choc-cherry, mocha scents, whiffs of black olive, truffle, warm sauna cedar. Mellow fragrance vibes. Sweet fruit, supple texture, good length, nice staining of palate. Feels pure in fruit flavour, just kissed with fancy oak spice, good length, nice, neat finish. Ticks many boxes. Has a luxurious feel. In the recliner."

In the realm of Pinot Noir, Felton Road has established itself as one of the world’s best producers, largely due to efforts like the 2015 Bannockburn Pinot. It is loaded with bright red fruit, i.e. wild cherries, strawberries, cranberries with great mid-palate silky weight that is hoisted up effortlessly by vibrant acidity on the back end. There are plenty of wild herbs like thyme, bay leaf and fennel to frame and add complexity to the fruit. Absolutely delicious.

This fabulous bottle of Central Otago Pinot Noir is at the top level of what we offer at K&L. If purity of fruit, grace, and natural richness are priorities for you, this Felton Road Bannockburn is one of the top bottles we can offer. This is an ideal partner for your best leg of lamb, or your cellar.

A truly great representation of the Bannockburn region of Central Otago and all it has to offer for Pinot production. This Pinot Noir is a stand-out in so many ways, from it's soft, dusty fruit, to it's subtle minerality from the ancient glacial soils. Not extreme in any respect, this wine is elegant and ethereal and an wonderful entry-point into Felton Road's wines. It is a great jumping off point to explore their single vineyard offerings as well. One of my personal favorites from Felton Road and Central Otago, I feel this wine represents what a really great Pinot Noir from this region should taste like.

While this is a blend of most of their "single" vineyard site it shouldn't be over looked. This does what all great blends should do; express the sum of the individual components. It has an expressive forward element like the Cornish and with more of the drive that the Calvert offers. It also expresses a spice element not found in either. The nose is cherry, raspberry and Central Otago spice. It is medium bodied with soft but moderate tannins. Great fruit with a hint of cola spice and a savory edge to the finish. Not a wine to be overlooked.

As always this is the workhorse of Felton's stable. The team there are always keen to point out that this shouldn't be considered a "lesser" wine than the single vineyard bottlings despite it's lower price point. The fruit is grown in exactly the same way and the winemaking practices are identical. This wine is a benchmark for the region every year perfectly representing Bannockburn as a truly special place for Pinot Noir.
