The cassis, dried-cranberry and herbal nose has some real complexity. Very expressive on the palate with great balance of crisp acidity, tannins and lively fruit. A joyful wine!
The Château Latour-Martillac 2014 has a light, slightly pinched bouquet with sultry blackberry and briary fruit, but missing the sense of energy of a great vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet ripe dark cherry and peppery entry. The tannins feel soft, saturated even, and the finish compensates for the nose with commendable precision if not quite the length. (NM)
Tightly structured, this is a dense wine. Packed with dry tannins, it is starting life as a firm wine. It is equally rich in fruit, a panoply of black plums and red currants. (RV)
Ripe and focused, with layers of plum paste, raspberry coulis and macerated bitter cherry driving along, backed by anise and iron notes on the finish. Has a slightly taut edge, so cellar for maximum effect. (JM)
