The 2015 Château d'Arce is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and it was picked earlier than usual, at the end of September, in order to preserve the Merlot aromas. No SO2 was used apart from two grams just after the malolactic, using CO2 to preserve the wine. It has a plush cranberry, black cherry and licorice scented bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, caressing in the mouth, hints of cedar and bay leaf, gentle and elegant with a sustained, light grip on the finish. This is very fine and elegant. Tasted twice with consistent notes. (NM)
Marked by a plush, light toasty frame around a core of plum and raspberry coulis flavors, this should be an open and inviting wine in bottle. Shows solid depth through the finish. (JM, Web Only-2016)
The 2015 d'Arce, from the Garcin family's Côtes de Castillon property, is forward, plum and expressive; in other words, everything it should be. Red cherry jam, spice and pomegranate appear first, followed by subtler shades of tobacco, licorice and savory herbs. There is lovely purity to the flavors here as well as fine overall balance. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. (AG)
This wine is soft, open and full of fruit. It has a tang of acidity as well as rich berry flavors and a supporting layer of tannin. Fine, smoky and structured, it will be easy to drink from 2019. (RV)
