(aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, 15% of them new) Light bright yellow. Heady, mineral-tinged tangerine, pear nectar and jasmine scents, along with suggestions of smoky lees and honey that gain strength as the wine opens up. At once vibrant and concentrated, offering juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors that deepen steadily through the midpalate. The floral and honey notes repeat strongly on the very long, penetrating finish, which leaves behind a suggestion of toasty lees. All of this fruit comes from Talley's Oliver's vineyard, and in the context of high-end California Chardonnay, it delivers superb value. (JR)
The 2015 Chardonnay Edna Valley reveals more intensity, with tropical notes of pineapple, exotic flowers and buttered lemon peel. Fresh, elegant and lively on the palate, with juicy acidity, it's another terrific value from this estate. (JebDunnuck.com)
