The 2014 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese #5 is very clear, deep and fresh in its mineral expression that intertwines the flinty Scharzhofberger terroir flavors with white stone fruit aromas. This is piquant and extremely well focused Riesling from one of the greatest Riesling terroirs on planet wine. The solidity and mineral complexity of the Spätlese #5 is remarkable. A great wine! (SR)
Richly spiced, with effusive minerality to the refined flavors of tangerine, peach and Gala apple. Delivers plenty of notes of dried mint and herb. The finish is long and flooded with crunchy acidity. (KM, Web-2016)
The early morning dew on the banks of the river Saar could not be more exhilarating than the fresh and pure fragrance emanating from the Scharzhofberger Spätlese. A fine perfume of citrus fruit titillates our sense of smell. Sweet lemon is a totally inept description of the taste, but represents my attempt to catch the composition of animating acidity and sweet citrus fruit. The tingling sensation in the mouth seems to last forever. Raw it still may be, delicious it definitely is already, people of my age should drink it now, young millionaires should lay it down. 18/20 points (MS)
