Initially there is a whiff of reduction present though it quickly blows off to reveal ripe if brooding and wonderfully complex aromas of black cherry fruit and warm earth undertones. The rich, full and powerful broad-shouldered flavors also possess outstanding concentration where the dry extract completely saturates the palate on the long and dusty finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is really quite refined as once again the relatively fine-grained tannins contribute significantly toward the sleek mouthfeel. Once again, like its stable mate, this should be capable of aging for a very long time. 2030+
The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet with dark cherry fruit, blackcurrant and briary tinged with fine mineralité - hints of cold stone percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with silky smooth tannin, good depth of fruit and crucially a keen line of acidity that maintains the tension. There is a subtle spicy, almost white pepper element to this Clos Vougeot that becomes more accentuated as it gently fans out on the finish. This is a very impressive Clos de Vougeot. (NM)
Full, dark red. Tight, primary, slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and minerals. Densely packed, rich and broad; a distinctly horizontal, pliant style of Clos Vougeot, no doubt a function of the very warm, sunny vintage. Today this is sweeter and more open-knit than the Grands-Echézeaux but both of these wines should easily age for two decades or more. (Mallard noted that on some days this wine comes across as stricter, 'more Cistercian.') Finishes with spicy, ripe tannins and terrific energy and length. (ST)
