Tasting Notes

The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage, when Franck and Betty Millet drove from Sancerre to Beaune (a long way) to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. The wines were great even in that tough vintage, and the rest is history. We love these wines for their freshness, charm and affordability, and this is easily our best value Sancerre in the store. From soils of clay and chalk in the village of Bue near the Domaine. The Millet keeps you coming back for more. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve the wonderful citrus and slightly grassy aromatics and gentle mineral finish.

We have been importing Franck Millet’s various different Sancerre productions {villages Blanc, “Insolite” Blanc, Vieilles Vignes Blanc, Rouge, and Rosé} for over twenty years, and this is the first special cuveé done strictly for K&L by the Millets. It is basically from the same old vine {“Vieilles Vignes”}, sixty year old vineyard section that vinifies their regular old vine production, but from a more precise, special section of that block. Stainless steel fermented with extended lees contact, this gorgeous creation shows decisive aromas of old vine lineage: lime-zest, casaba melon, hints of jasmine, ripe grapefruit, and a tarragon herbalness, all of which is underscored by an earthy, almost seashell-like mineral tone with a touch of smokiness. Carrying over nicely to a clean, crisp, mouthwatering presentation that has “old vine” structure and depth, this is a classic Sancerre that would rival the handful of great Sauvignon Blancs from the handful of great producers from that region. The Bean loves this Gem of a Loire Valley white has begged me to bring home at least three or four cases for our enjoyment for the next five to ten years. A MAGNIFICENT VALUE!!! .....A K&L WINE MERCHANTS' DIRECT IMPORT..... ***** 12.5% ABV ***

This Sancerre brings about memories of summer picnics. It has an herbaceous nose of grass and tarragon leading into notes of citrus. A mineral-driven finish on the palate brings a crisp, easy-drinking quality. Perfect for a summer day!

Honeydew melon, ruby grapefruit and smoke scents pick up fresh, minty herb accents here. Light and crisp, this keeps the fruit in the aromatics, while the mineral component comes to the fore and dominates the palate.

I've been a big fan of the Franck Millet wines because they are absolutely delicious with an attractive price point. Complex tropical and citrus flavors come together in this crisp, dry Sancerre that's perfect for spring and summer!

Very robust flavors of citrus, lemongrass, pineapple and melon are at the core of this Sancerre Blanc made from the old vines of our good friends Franck and Betty Millet. The density from the old vine fruit is balanced out by focused acidity and chalky minerality. Once again this Millet Sancerre well outperforms its price-point.

Outstanding wine from a great Sancerre vintage. This is the K&L Cuvee of Millet's traditional cuvee. Very earthy and mineral on the nose with citrus undertones.Clean and very crisp on the palate with lingering finish. Much better than their 2005. I love it.
