Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Sierra Mar has a gorgeous perfume of violet and rose hip tea with suggestions of cinnamon toast over a core of kirsch and wild strawberries. Medium-bodied, silky and with a great intensity of fresh red berries, it finishes long with some earthy nuances coming though. (LPB)
Discreet wood, spice and menthol elements can be found on the very ripe yet attractively fresh nose that reflects mostly notes of various red berries and rose petal. I like the mouth feel of the rounded, velvety and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess a succulent, even juicy mouth feel, all wrapped in a bitter cherry pit and slightly tangy finish though I underscore that here the tanginess is less evident than in the Gary’s.
Its nicely formed blend of ripe red cherries and creamy oak gives the wine solid credentials from the start, and only a slight frontal quality to its fruit and a modest lack of continuity at the very end hold it back from even higher marks. That said, this is a likeable wine at every stop and one that will not let you down if it comes across your table.
