K&L Notes

Coteaux Varois en Provence is in the west center of the Provence appellation, and is ringed by hills and mountains to the south, north and west. The soils are mostly limestone and clay with the two main distinctions being altitude (most vineyards average 350 meters) and a continental climate influence. The surrounding mountains and hills act as natural barriers. Château Trians has the added benefit of having all north-facing vineyards. In 1989, under new ownership, the 50-acre vineyard began modernizing and shifted to organic production.

Strolling through the picturesque open-air marketplace in Toulon, one can be overwhelmed by the kaleidoscopic fruits and vegetables that beckon from every stall, and the fragrant scent of acacia, thyme and lavender that seems baked into the air. This is also home to wonderfully refreshing and charming roses, captivating blends of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah that pair so well with the local cuisine. Replete with bright red berry fruits, a whiff of minerality and a waft of oolong tea, this organic, sophisticated rose will prove an elegant match for fresh-caught seafood and summer salads.
