Tight, restrained nose opens with air to reveal complex scents of lemon, lime, stone, mint and iodine, plus an almost Viognier-like floral quality. Quite dry and austere in the early going, with the lemon, lime and stone flavors coming across as very clenched. Possesses excellent stony energy but this wine will need six to eight years of cellaring upon its release. (ST)
*Outstanding* This too is quite firmly reduced and about all that can be discerned is the wood treatment. By contrast there is excellent freshness and verve to the intensely mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration thanks once again to the abundant dry extract that imparts a distinctly textured mouth feel to the citrusy, complex and beautifully well-balanced finale.
