I tasted two vintages of the entry-level Albariño, starting with the 2015 Leirana, which is sourced from different villages of the Salnés Valley. They harvested early because it had rained and the forecast was for more rain and risk of botrytis. The result is very low alcohol and pH. Some time in bottle has polished it, and it's now quite approachable, gentler and very mineral. It's super tasty, with a salty finish. This is a bit of a wild vintage of Leirana, in line with the 2013. 30,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2016. (LG)
Pale, green-tinged yellow. Bright and sharply focused on the nose, displaying incisive Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, quinine and mineral scents, along with a hint of ginger in the background. Dry, taut and light on its feet, offering intense, mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit flavors that show no excess weight. Closes on a spicy note, displaying strong, floral-tinged persistence.
