Slovenia is wedged between Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia with a tiny, 40km of it touching the Adriatic Sea in the southwest corner. While the country looks like a running chicken, the geography has lent itself well to wine growing and people have been growing wine in the region since before Roman times. From importer Blue Danube: "Manually harvested. Fermented in submersible inox roto tank at the controlled temperature. Maceration duration: 3-4 days. Aging in stainless steel. Ruby red with violet hints. Quite complex and refreshing nose. The fragrances of wild berries prevail, above all blueberry, black berries and brambleberries. In the background white pepper and plum. Extremely fresh and elegant on the palate; altogether soft, tannins are exceptionally smooth and tender, almost velvety. Long and fruity aftertaste."
