A savory wine to start, still showing some tarry, ferment-derived reduction on the nose. Slightly deeper cherry than 2011 with beetroot and earthy, root-vegetable notes. The palate has attractive fruit entwined in fresh, supple ,long tannins. Nice swirling build here; acid holds it all bright and even.
Healthy bright medium red. Captivating soil-inflected aromas of musky strawberry, smoked meat, coffee, pepper, mulch and dried flowers. Broad, round and sweet on the palate, with very fine-grained flavors of bitter cherry, sandalwood and smoky oak. Not the last word in inner-mouth tension or grip, but boasts lovely rich, savory fruit and finishes smooth and long, with a fine dusting of tannins. (ST)
